My name is Brock Hewitt, Founder and Lead Composer at Stories in Sound based in the GTA. For myself Matrimony is a Sacred Gift from God and it is something that is deeply special to me. I love to serve couples through music, by creating deep emotional musical experiences that help tell the story of the couple’s love.
Outside of playing for Weddings, I provide Worship Music Ministry at Hillspring Church, where I Lead the congregation musically each Sunday. In addition to this, my main vocational focus is Composing Music for Film/Television. Recently coming back to Canada from Los Angeles, where I was interning at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions, I have been creating a community of composers and performers for various media/film projects.
In these projects I am constantly looking at a scene and figuring out the best way to tap into the deep emotion of the characters, setting and important moments in the story, through the medium of music. My goal is to craft these moments in a fitting way that helps enhance the story. When approaching Wedding Music Soundscapes, I bring a fresh feel because I not only play the special songs that the couple has chosen but also work with them to craft an intimate emotional experience through instrumental music, where I enhance the ceremony just like how I would enhance a scene from a movie. Because of my work in film/tv I have access to some of the best piano players, violin/string players, guitar players and singers in the GTA. I am able to put together an ensemble based on the needs of the couple whether that be a solo act, a duo, a trio or something bigger.
It is so important to score the scene of the special day live. A lot of musicians will just play songs but my focus is always on connecting these songs with instrumental interludes, so that I can play emotional moments of the ceremony without getting in the way of the main focus. This is the beauty of how I use my film scoring techniques to create a sentimental, loving, musical atmosphere.
